A Strawberry Sunday

The strawberry picking season has begun and we couldn’t wait to take the girls back to Pearce’s Farm in Puckeridge, Hertfordshire.

The first time we visited was last year when Charlotte was only 5 months old, so we were excited to return with her now she is walking and able to join in with the picking – So excited in fact, that I got carried away and dressed them both in strawberry themed outfits! 🍓

We decided to have breakfast first, in their beautiful cafe that over looks the meadows. It can get busy, especially on a weekend, so I would recommend booking ahead.

Their breakfast menu has everything, from porridge to a full English and they will do a mini version for the kiddies too. I’m not a veggie, but if we are eating breakfast out, I normally go for the veggie option. I am fussy when it comes to fatty bacon and sausages (I hate it when you find those gristly bits in sausages!). The veggie option at Pearce’s includes eggs (cooked any way you like), beans, tomatoes, hash browns and mushrooms. Yummy! (My mouth is watering just writing about it).

Breakfast was perfect (apart from a grumpy Charlotte, who wanted to escape from her high chair) and I’ve heard that the afternoon tea and Sunday roasts are very good too, so we’ll have to return to test them out next!

Full up from brekkie, we grabbed our strawberry punnets and headed to the PYO area. As you enter the tents the first thing that hits you is the sweet smell of strawberries. It really is a gift for the senses. Annabelle was off, rushing along the rows of hanging strawberry plants, grabbing the biggest ones she could see. Charlotte was in her element. Complete freedom and something she could finally join in with, along with her big sister.

They loved it and Charlotte soon worked out exactly what to do. She enjoyed grabbing the strawberries within her reach and placing them in her bucket (or in her mouth – which is breaking the rules of course – cheeky monkey!).

We had a perfect Sunday morning at Pearce’s Farm and we would recommend it for a fun family outing in Hertfordshire.

  1. Love Pearce’s farm shop. I get all my veg (and a few other bits) from there. I’m only round the corner so it’s my local green grocer. I love the fact that you get brown paper bags for your purchases instead of them being packaged in tons of plastic
